The two divisions in the Tophiachu lore community that are tearing it apart
There are two sides of the Tophiachu lore community I’d like to address and bring attention to. The recent tragedy has sparked a lot of tension and discourse between these two groups of people, and I feel it’s time to call both sides out. Here’s my rant.
There exists a group of people who hold an intense loathing for Tophia. And when I say loathing, I am not referring to a simple dislike rooted in her actions (which would be understandable), but to an all consuming hatred. They are openly wishing for her downfall, endorsing death threats, making cruel jokes about Brotherchu’s death, displaying no empathy for the loss, and expressing such vile statements that even someone like me, who doesn’t hold Tophia in high regard, finds utterly cringe worthy. To be clear, Tophia is by no means a good person, but I believe there is a significant difference between criticizing her or poking fun at her and descending into outright hatred to the point of desiring her death.
These people fail to comprehend that those who express sympathy for Tophia’s loss are not excusing her actions, nor are they mindlessly defending her. And it’s entirely reasonable to not feel sympathy for her homelessness, as she put herself in that predicament. However, regarding Brotherchu’s death while it was certainly avoidable, it cannot be solely blamed on Tophia.
Now, let’s address the second group: the Tophia defenders, who I call, fupa riders. While people like myself may feel sympathy for Tophia’s circumstances yet still dislike her as a person, many in this group feel sorry for her situation while excusing or downplaying her actions and words. It’s one thing to be skeptical of unproven allegations against a content creator based on speculation, but it’s another entirely to ignore clear evidence of wrongdoing and simply look the other way. These defenders are quick to take Tophia’s word as gospel, despite the fact that she has shown little care for them in return. In my opinion, their defense of her is rooted more in pity than anything else. they feel sorry for her, not just because of her situation, but because they perceive her as “ugly” in a broader sense and they see themselves in her. Many of these defenders are now using the recent tragedy as leverage to attack those who have criticized her for years. What’s even more striking is the hypocrisy in these people. while defending Tophia, they hurl insults at her critics, accusing them of being just like her and making backhanded remarks while proclaiming their support. It simply doesn’t add up, the fupa riders are VERY ridiculous and tend to lack critical-thinking.
At the end of the day, don’t be a weirdo internet goblin by advocating for Tophia’s death or lacking empathy for her loss, and don’t blindly defend her or downplay her actions out of misplaced pity. That’s all.

What annoys me about the Tophia defenders is they ignore the fact that disparity between those who have greatly tried to help her by offering her advice linking her to resources or just straight up sending her money far outweighs those who actively wish death upon her or engage in the fucked up shit. They also keep trying to play that “she’s clearly delayed” or “she’s got something going on” defense. She’s clearly got something going on and she’s definitely working with a surface level, intelligence but the few times she does use her smarts? she demonstrates she is capable. She’s just extremely lazy and entitled.

Tophia defenders ignore everything. They see an overweight, not attractive, “slow” (even though she’s not), homeless woman and feel bad. You can’t criticize her for anything without them freaking out. Eventually, they will see her true colors and stop defending her. It literally happens with every single person. Just give it time.

Tophia is stupid in a lot of ways but she definitely is not mentally delayed. She’s very intelligent when it comes to manipulating people. Whether it’s for money or sympathy. I truly believe a lot of the dumb shit she says she knows is not correct information. She does this so when people call her dumb she can pull the ableist card.

Yeah I really have never gotten the whole “mentally delayed” claim that people like to give tophia. She’s just a narcissistic lazy person who refuses to grow up and provide for herself.

Manipulation doesn’t require intelligence; I would honestly peg her IQ at around 80. She parrots what works for some people to gain sympathy/support but lacks the cognitive function to understand why her use of those same phrases only makes people more irritated and not sympathetic. I can sympathize with her loss of her brother, but what she does with that loss and grief is on her shoulders. Denial and blame make it easier to shoulder losses when the situation seems so beyond understanding and I wonder if she’s going to that because she has zero emotional intelligence and coping skills. Not to excuse her actions, but more to understand why she would behave that way.

I can't relate to the people who defend her. Simply because Tophias character is one of selfishness, narcissism, and ignorance.
Fupa defenders always take the easy way out, saying people criticize her looks and weight when actions speak louder than words.
If you took all of Tophias actions and analyzed them, WITHOUT mentioning how she looks, she is objectively a terrible human being.
I get she isn't conventionally attractive. But being ugly doesn't give you a pass for animal abuse, racism, prejudice, theft by deception, and laziness.
The problem with this divide and the internet in general within young adults is that people lack nuance. The Slydells are some of the most polarizing people on tiktok. And weird randoms wanted to virtue signal how good of a person they are when we all heard the news.
The world isn't black and white. Is Tophia objectively a terrible excuse for a 30 yr old adult? Yes. Did her family deserve what happened to them on 3/11? No. Is it a tragedy that no one should endure. Yes. Does Tophia deserve monetary gain from exploiting her family's trauma? Who knows.
Donald did have questionable life choices that ultimately never fully got explained. Tophias only job was almost 10 years ago. Now she she will milk this for never wanting to work due to PTSD.
Some think this could be her big wake-up call for life. But this won't instantly turn her into a productive adult. She will continue doing as she always has. Being leach on society, expecting everyone else to front the bill.

You brought up a great point, a lot of these dim wits lack nuance. Tophia defenders lack nuance by downplaying or outright ignoring her harmful actions. They operate under the misguided notion that having sympathy for her circumstances must mean ignoring the things she’s done. Instead of acknowledging that she can be both a person deserving of basic empathy and someone who has done objectively bad things.

Brotherchu’s death certainly isn’t on Toph. It’s on the crazy pos who decided to kill someone and nearly kill another for a shitty car. However she certainly didn’t help them. Insisting on staying in a horrible part of town locals call hells half acre. Insisting on making zero income. Refusing to rent anything. Refusing shelters. She had multiple outs of the situation. For every few trolls telling her bs and joking with her there were some people giving her resources she refused to use. I can’t feel bad for her. I refuse to feel bad for the brother. I pray Marie gets better.
