Even if you're buying a refurbished iPhone, you do know that you're still supporting Apple right? You're still directly contributing to Apple's revenue and brand value idiot.

Worry about paying your storage unit and your phone bill and leave the grown up purchases to the adults that work hard for their money.
And my switch *wasn’t* working “just good” and I knew the new one was going to be release soon, so I waited to buy that. And some people are upgrading from iPhones that are on the edge of Apple support and struggle with the updates.
I realize that overconsumption is a huge issue, but the fact that she assumes anyone who buys something is upgrading from the most recent version to just to upgrade is telling.

Oh, absolutely. When she has the money, her mindset is “consooooooooooooooom!” She’s shown that time and again. And, even worse, part of the reason she can’t afford a new phone is that she’s bought so much junk. I remember her listing off all the things that she lost when her car was broken into and it was like two Xboxes, Betty Boop makeup, some other makeup kit, and probably some other stuff that I’ve forgotten. And she talks about all the cars her brother had like it‘s some kind of flex.
She’s extremely materialistic and that’s why this whole anti-consumption attitude rings so hollow.

Girl, I have the 15 still and it works just fine for me. I also still have my old switch and I’m not upgrading that just yet because I’m currently saving up a room revamp/pc setup. Seriously with the upcoming holidays now would be the perfect time for her to apply for seasonal retail gigs. Plus, maybe with a discount she could actually save up some of those paychecks and put it towards an apartment. Look she's not wrong. I feel the same way. Our desires are often manufactured by the capitalist class, and I also only get refurbished/ second hand phones. I don't want to contribute to the number of new phones they make every year, nor actually give money to the companies that make them, using batteries that come from child exploitation and slavery. No one needs a new phone every year, but capitalism attempts to make us feel like we do.
But we all know that isn't why she doesn't buy a new phone every year. She would if she could. She is so wasteful and loves consumerist junk. She just doesn't have any money, and she's trying to justify and make herself sound good.
