Another thought about Marie.
I want to say that since Marie is in the hospital, i’m sure that Adult Protective Services has been called for this situation. i think since Marie is in the hospital it’ll speed up the process in finding her a placement for a home… im sure they are seeing what she has been going through and im hoping that they have set her up with a Case Worker.
Normally in situations like this where elderly women are involved the hospitals will get into contact with them and set her up directly. so let’s all hope 🙏 that this will put Marie somewhere she can be taken care of.

I feel like it’s a bit optimistic to think they’ll help Marie at all.. Albuquerque does not have the resources to do that. I could be wrong but I’ve been doing a lot of digging into NM as a whole and it’s just a huge mess
-
As someone with knowledge of social work, it is quite optimistic. Unfortunately there's a lot of people in Marie's position and they only have so many programs.
-
What did you find out idmf new mexico that makes it a huge mess?
-
I wish I could go into it in detail but it would be a huge essay. I recommend researching it further yourself if you’re truly interested.
But in short, basically NM is poor, education is not great, the jobs are very low pay, and there is high crime + homelessness with very little support for these people. I think a lot of people in this sub are sadly ignorant to the rest of america and think they have the same level of services and care as everyone else when it is far from the truth.
People look down on Tophia for not having the same decision making skills as someone who was born to 2 educated, non drug addict parents and someone who has access to decent schooling. Like yeah duh she can’t manage her money look at where she was born. And I’m not saying EVERYONE in NM is absolutely stunted by their situation, but don’t be ignorant to this being a huge factor in why she makes bad choices.TLDR; no money, no welfare services, bad education, lack of opportunity, high crime and drug use. Most of you in this sub are making fun of someone who has none of the privileges we do
-
Thank you for sharing that information. You were very informative. Ironic/sad that tophia 's stepdad papachu was a college graduate with a bachelor's in accounting and an army officer as becoming a military officer is difficult. I was hoping papachu's experience as a stick broker from a respected university would have rubbed off on brotherchu and tophia
That's so sad to hear about new mexico as new mexico looks beautiful with its evening skylines and air balloons. Odd that new mexico has the nickname of "the land of enchantment" as i have a dozen friends from college who moved from the city to new mexico to live a low cost of living and pay less taxes as they keep complain limg about taxes.

even then that gives them time to find out where to place her. i pray and hope marie can get the help she needs. it’s just like the hotel situation where she was having accidents on herself she isn’t able to take care of herself financially or even health wise 😢😣😣😣😣
-
-
They will likely put Marie in a woman's shelter. Tophia will probably be allowed to go to its really a question if she will obey the rules and not get kicked out
-
I would hope New Mexicos laws would help get them both into a home maybe some kind of section 8 situation. those places usually only charge $50-$100 a month to pay rent (if anything) and they don’t require paystubs or any type of income at all. the whole point of paying taxes in our states is for situations like this and people who are unable to take care of themselves efficiently. But isn’t there a huge homeless population in New Mexico as well??
-
Homelessness is a big problem in Albuquerque and the section 8 wait list is like 2 or 3 years long at this point if I remember right. A women's shelter is their best bet right now.
-
usually people who are victims of crime could be pushed forward right? that’s why i said i was hoping the hospital would be able to get her set up a lot quicker.
-
Not at all. They usually just release you back onto the street. Speaking from experience and being from Albuquerque.
-
I honestly have no idea as I've never been in a similar situation. They'll definitely get her in the system and set up with a social worker at least
-
all we can do is hope 🙏 poor woman has been through enough this past few years.
-
Yep, the resources are there for her. Just have to keep Tophia from dragging her down.

-
She complained about section 8 because she has to be working to be eligible
-
she wouldn’t even have to work full time SMH
-
-
You obviously don't know much about section 8. There's no minor children in this family. Someone has to work to qualify if there's no minors involved. There's a waitlist of 2-5 years in most states as well. There's a huge homeless population in abq. There's no magic wands to be waved, to free up beds or section 8 homes, because of their emergency. At best Marie will go to a nursing home for rehab for a few and get signed up for disability. They might be able to help her get temporary shelter, but Marie and Tophia will have to support themselves!

Homelessness is sadly a big problem throughout the whole US

She needs to be moved to a rehabilitation facility as soon as she’s discharged from the hospital—otherwise, she’ll end up right back in the backseat of that car on the streets of Albuquerque. Her daughter simply isn’t capable of providing the care she needs, and at this point, it’s clear that she can’t handle her mother’s medical needs.
As difficult as it may sound, she shouldn’t be in her daughter’s care anymore. That doesn’t mean her daughter can’t visit her whenever she wants, but her mother deserves to be in a facility where she can be properly cared for and rehabilitated. She shouldn’t have to live in such unsafe and undignified conditions—it’s just not right.
-
agree!! you put this into the words i wanted to say. you are absolutely right.
-
It’s amazing to me how people are using this tragedy as an excuse to completely ignore the facts. The reality is that Tophia is selfish and incapable of taking care of her sick, elderly mother. Instead of blindly giving her money out of sympathy—knowing full well she won’t handle it responsibly—people should prioritize what’s actually right. Her mother needs real help, not another handout that will be wasted.
-
yes. people are ignoring what’s already been said a million times over. i feel extreme empathy for Tophia at this time but i just cannot ignore what she has done with money in the past. she is apart of the reason that her family is homeless to begin with. not to mention putting her mother in the situation of being relentlessly harassed and bullied by the online community when she could’ve easily logged off and got a job. she has had so many opportunities to change her life.
-
My opinion on her hasn’t changed—if she wants to spend her life permanently online, riding the wave of social media, that’s her choice. But her sick mother and mentally ill father shouldn’t have to suffer because of it.
People also shouldn’t be funding her homelessness while she live-streams with filters from the inside of a car in Albuquerque. It’s really that simple. Some folks are just trying to make it more complicated than it needs to be.
-
agreed! that’s why i’m hoping whoever is doing this gofundme that she is so angry about… only uses it for marie. And uses it for donald’s funeral. he deserves a proper burial. the last thing needed is for him to be carried around all day every day while tophia is homeless.

i’m honestly glad she gets to lay in a bed, eat 3 meals a day and have snacks being in the hospital. it must feel so refreshing.
-
even possibly a shower soon once she has healed a bit more. a hot shower will feel life changing.
-
-
This is so much for mama to handle. She’s been shot, she was already in bad health, and she’s just lost her son. My heart is broken for her. She will need a lot of support to help her through her grief and recovery ❤️🩹
-
i know. i feel for her on so many levels right now. she has been abused by her husband and now lost her baby. i can’t imagine the pain. i just cannot fathom it.
-
-
Question will tophia be able to join her?? Cuz if they put Marie somewhere where will tophia go?
-
well since there’s an investigation going on and the police are aware of her situation i would also hope Adult Protective Services would be contacted by them too to find out some way to help her out.
-
-
As a European I'm constantly surprised with the lack of infrastructure over there for things like this, but surely there has to be some kind of emergency housing or shelter available--she's the victim of a violent crime, if nothing else, there's bound to be some means of ensuring she's got somewhere other than the street to return to after hospital.
-
the united states is a total scam. tax payer dollars not going to actually fund state programs to help out the homeless community is already proof enough. thousands of people including the elderly and disabled completely abandoned by the state to fend for themselves. sick world we live in!
-
unfortunately a lot of them in that area are over crowded and under funded. many people choose the streets over these shelters due to how low quality it is.
-
-
Since Marie still has free will, how would that work if she says no? She follows Tophia.
-
if she says no… that’s on her. and if Tophia is the reason her mom doesn’t accept HELP… SHAME ON HER.
-
This is tough because I think they mentally don’t get it, but no one can force anything on them.
-
that’s exactly why adult protective services needs to step in. her mother is not capable of taking care of herself. her health was already so bad she was having accidents on herself… and now after being shot we have no idea how much worse she’s going to do after “recovering”. she’s old and she needs to be in a home. but from what i’ve read here on this sub i guess New Mexico has shitty state help so i’m concerned she will be back on the streets in worse condition than she was before 😣
-
Ah. I was wondering the state of NM social services. I also wonder how it all works with her being married to Donald.
-
Being incontinent doesn't make you qualified for a nursing home in any state. Having a cold cough doesn't either. Getting someone declared mentally incompetent is extremely difficult on any state. Resources are extremely limited in every state. Most people just see things through rose colored glasses, until they need the resources themselves or for a loved one.

Due to her age, condition, and circumstances, it’s likely that they’ll have her in a nursing home. At least for a while.
I think Marie will be placed temporarily in a medical Rehab facility when the hospital feels she is stable enough to leave them. There is no way they release Marie to a shelter right away due to the nature of her injury and age and health conditions. She will most likely be in a medical Rehab facility for a few weeks until she gets strong again
