Asian Beauty Standards and Tophia
I feel this issue never comes up when Tophia and Asians are discussed. BaiFuMei otherwise known as the classic Asian beauty standard, especially in China, is everything she hates, because she is not any of these things; fair, rich, and lovely.
白 (Bai) White/ fair:
Skin lightener and sun protection creams are some of the most popular cosmetic products in Asia due to the age old association of fair skin with a higher social class. She is not White, and HATES White people.
富 (Fu) Rich:
She hates the rich, yet wants to be rich. In other words, envy is coming in to play here.
美 (Mei)Beautiful or lovely:
Tophia is insecure about her appearance. When trolls call her ugly she has strong reactions to it. Youthfulness is another factor, in the Mei category.
From this we can tell Baifumei would become a sore spot if the reality of Asian beauty standards came to her awareness. Also, according to Critical Theory, something she clearly believes, Asians are “White-adjacent”, yet she wants them. Do you think she’ll stop being obsessed with Asian men or cope harder and antagonize them, blame White people for this, while still pursuing Asian men?
Well, she wants all of those qualities in her partners. But she fails to understand that nobody anywhere on the globe is gonna want a partner who is lazy as hell, dumb as a rock, and more disgusting than a pig in shit. Also family values are a thing over there and they’re not gonna like this grown ass woman who verbally abuses her elderly mother on the daily.
