I feel stupid.
I genuinely feel stupid for getting mad at Leaping Lemur. Sure what he said was shitty about the whole ordeal in the beginning of it all. But I think we jumped the gun too quickly on this one. Mainly because we didn’t see how Tophia would react to Donald Jr.’s passing. Some of us probably even thought she’d get her life back together to improve the safety of Marie and herself. But NOPE! She went back on her habits and tried to milk it for pity money and attention. TL;DR I think we were (a wee bit) wrong for getting pissed at Leaping Lemur.

Maybe. And my empathy is hella blunt too, tbh. I just, I know what it’s like to lose a loved one (my pet Rabbit, a friend, a family dog) I’ve seen a lot of death. And seeing Leaping Lemur talk about her the he did reminded me of that. And I got mad. But I saw how Tophia was reacting to the death, vs. Donald Jr.’s friends. Genuinely made me even more mad. So I think Lemur was in the right now.

I’ve watched my Granpa die in front of me, I know how hard it can be to process that. However, when It occurred I was 16 and was the only one that had to put on a face so my family had someone to lean onto. Mind you, there were 15 of us that travelled together before he died. That doesn’t include the family already there. I don’t think I ever fully went through the grieving process with him. I digress.
But it’s alright to feel that way OP 🙂↕️

Thanks, my Rabbit’s last song before he passed was ‘Island in the Sun’ by Weezer. And it took me a while to come to terms with the death. (I still don’t listen to the song as much as I used to anymore) it sucks, man. But the way that Tophia handled it genuinely pissed me tf off.

Completely agree. I wouldn’t even say it’s a lack of empathy (like many accused those of us who didn’t immediately feel bad for her, even though we all pretty much said it was a horrible situation & it sucked, but we knew how she was most likely going to be regardless); It’s more so that most of us have probably dealt with, or known, others similar to Tophia, so we are more weary & maybe even a little jaded towards how many of these types of people are because we’ve seen it or have been through it before. I think a lot of the ones who felt sorry for her are probably younger (that’s not a dig either, so please don’t take it that way), but they probably just haven’t experienced the same let downs yet that Life throws at people. Some may say it’s pessimistic, but I see it as just being a realist. The fact is: Some people will never change, nor do they actually want to. There are people, like Tophia, who think the world owes them something when it doesn’t. This mindset of hers needs to change if she ever wants to change & have a better life for herself, but I don’t see it happening. I’m not saying it’s impossible, just that it’s improbable, especially the older someone gets. The older you get, the more set in your ways you become.

It was hard to see it in that way because no matter who it is, grief is very hard. As much as we have to say about tophia and her family none of them deserve an ending like that. And I guess we didn’t want to enhance that grief? But she’s proven now that all the sympathy we gave her fell on deaf ears.

My issue was this: them being where they were wasn’t an unfortunate coincidence. They had a place that they could have continued staying at had they just paid rent and not trashed it. After getting evicted they had shelters available to them that they either voluntarily denied to stay at or were banned from because of past behavior, and the money they could have used to find a new place was squandered on unnecessary things like cons, meet and greets, and indulgences. All that aside though, of all the places they could have parked their car, they chose the one spot in ABQ known to locals as “hell’s half acre”. It is a notoriously dangerous spot full of drug use, homeless camps, and crime. Tophia and her family would have known this, and likely chose to stay there because it was less likely they’d be bothered by law enforcement since a family sleeping in a car isn’t as unusual in a place like that.
These were all voluntary choices they made that put them in a vulnerable position in a dangerous place where the chances of them being harmed increased significantly. It would be like taking a vacation to Ukraine and acting surprised when you find yourself in an active warzone. When people like Lemur and myself acknowledged that the Slydell’s irresponsible choices put them at risk of this very event, we were absolutely torn apart. Acknowledging that this wouldn’t have happened had they sought shelter or better handled their money doesn’t mean we didn’t sympathize with what happened, but many people had a hard time understanding that. They wanted to absolve Tophia of all accountability, despite saying all these same things prior to the event.
Brotherchu’s death was tragic and nobody deserves to go through such a horrifying and heartbreaking situation, but their series of bad choices absolutely put them in danger, and this was the outcome.

Didn’t feel bad when he uploaded it. Had the same sentiment he had which was telling her to get off the internet which of course, surprise surprise, she didn’t. He did lie or was mean. A bit hard on the wording but nothing was really wrong about it. This is Tophia yall, we ALL knew that she was too set in her ways to change a darn thing, even after losing a sibling in such a horrific way, your younger sibling at that. So lemur was definitely looking forward on this and saw it for what it was.

I am gonna say something that may have people disagree because I KNOW it’s Tophia of all people we are talking about, however I don’t think you should feel bad for reacting like any other human would when given news like what had happened. Hindsight is only 20/20 and you shouldn’t feel bad about not knowing how she would react to this news. I honestly think even people who weren’t expecting her to change are still kind of shocked of how she is handling this right now.

Essentially, he insulted Tophia and how she went on live the first moment she heard about the news of Donald’s death. People weren’t happy at first. And Lemur deleted the video and apologized (in hindsight, he really didn’t need to apologize, or even delete the video).

I barely had empathy for her in the first place, just could sympathize with Marie for losing a child and toph for losing a sibling. I, for one, did not expect her to change. I, however, did not expect her to get angry at her viewers as quickly as she did. It was like her brother died and then a couple of days later she started blaming the Internet, who had no hand in his death whatsoever. You are the only one responsible for yourself, but she can't get this simple concept to seep into her smooth brain.

I tried to make a post abt it here the day it happened but yeah. I think the trauma of the incident is more than likely going to make her habits worse if anything. Marie is most likely going to be suffering from ptsd as well and speaking from experience having an elderly family member with ptsd can be very stressful at times. All this stress is just going to reinforce her lifestyle than change it more than likely. The smartest thing for her to do right now is to go dark on social media (as that is for most if not all lol cows) but I doubt she will, she’ll only seek it out more for comfort even if it stresses her out more. Kinda like an alcoholic with beer.
I wanna note that I’m just looking at this from a psychological perspective since I’m a Psychology major. I’m not trying to make excuses for tophia’s action nor am I trying to criticize her. -
I'm surprised everyone is flabbergasted she fell right back into old habits. I don't want to shame anyone on having human empathy or be one of those "I told you so" guys, but seeing as how she already gave reasons to doubt (shaming donators, her history of impulsive spending, scamming, etc.) why does this come as a shock? I'm genuinely curious. This is the same woman who ignores her mother's death coughs in the background, freely throws out racist or bigoted remarks, and would rather other people take care of her needs instead of just getting a job.
Yeah, it's fucked up she lost her brother, I'm sure she does have her mental struggles, and it's unfortunate she doesn't come from a positive background. But none of that is an excuse to pity her, enable her (like her mother has done for years now), or overlook her history of repeat bullshit she's done for most her Tiktok "Career". I guess the point I wanna get across is not all people who have harshly criticized her are just running hate compaigns. It was obvious she wasn't going to change. She didn't when they couldn't afford rent, she didn't when they were tight on money and living in a hotel room, she didn't when they were living in their car on the streets of New Mexico *knowing* how high the crime rate is, and she isn't going to now. She had every opportunity to change the situation and with them stuck on the streets something like this was going to happen eventually. No she's not responsible for his death but she put them in that dangerous living situation because she prioritized going live on TT over their living conditions. I'm pretty sure the crime rate in NM is higher than Alaska, to put in perspective how dangerous it was for them to be out there. She doesn't care what happens to her and those around her as long as she gets to beg online and not have to put in any effort towards her situation. She refused to even stay in the homeless shelter nearby because she didn't like the food and they wouldn't let her go live, so she refused and kept them on the streets in that car most nights.

I guess I’ll be the first to say I saw this coming. I didn’t expect her to change her ways. I’ve watched her since late 2022/early 2023. I’ve seen her in the apartment, both hotels, both times homeless in the cars. There hasn’t been anything that has changed unfortunately. Sometimes you can’t help those that don’t want help. And as far as I’m aware Tophia doesn’t want it deep down.
She didn’t for Hershey, her family, herself. She lives in this bubble and is very set in her ways. Don’t feel stupid or ignorant. You had empathy, something I lack in many situations(I do show empathy but it’s situational as I’m blunt) I know I felt bad for the situation itself. But not for Tophia.
Maybe this is how people REALLY see her true colors. Who knows?
