Nobody is “switching up”
Friendly reminder that you can find the Slydells’ words and actions abhorrent and still have empathy for them right now. The world is not black and white, and some of y’all need to learn what nuance is. Having compassion for a family that just experienced a senseless, random act of violence doesn’t mean forgetting their precious misdeeds or excusing their future wrongdoings.
The reality is that Tophia and Donald Jr. are/were both adults and were responsible for their actions, but they were also raised by an insane, abusive father and a doormat mother who is probably also intellectually disabled. Neither of them learned life skills or emotional regulation the way most children do. That doesn’t excuse their behavior or absolve them from responsibility. I have made fun of both of them in the past and I don’t think the snark they received is unfair. But the context of their lives should matter in how we respond to this tragedy. I don’t care if Tophia talked about random trolls family members. She was mostly making shit up in an attempt to get a rise out of people. Her brother was actually shot in front of her. These things are not comparable.
Anyway tl;dr some of you guys need to go outside and get some perspective. This wasn’t karma. This was tragic. If you can’t have a shred of empathy for the situation, maybe you don’t need to comment on it.

someone commented that people being compassionate are standing on “high horses”, do they realise which sub we’re ALL posting in?
it’s about respecting the “impact”, like- the man JUST died, it’s hard not to put yourself in Tophia’s shoes, especially if you have family members you love and care for.

When I read some of the insensitive or ‘edgy’ comments it just shows who lacks logic and reasoning and basic human decency. Time and place. Y’all need to thank your lucky stars you haven’t experienced pain and tragedy like that. One good thing is, people like OP are posting and showing maturity and sense and understanding, which is what this community needs.
Well said on your post OP. Some people are hella disrespectful and are treating this like an ‘oh well’ or ‘lol’ situation, when something like this can happen to literally anybody. Some of y’all need to reconsider the type of energy you’re putting out into the world.

I think chalking this shooting up to “karma” is actually incredibly bad karma on part of the person speaking it. Tophia has been an asshole online and said and done some really nasty things but who are any of us to say she deserved to watch her brother die?

You can feel sympathy for this tragic event & still be aware that they’re bad people. It wasn’t karma, it was a random act of violence over a shitty fucking car. With that being said, and I don’t care if you call me “edgy” “heartless” or “cruel”, Tophia does NOT deserve donations/gift cards. You can support her w out supporting her financially.
I sympathize with her and Marie, but I will NEVER send them money. Y’all shouldn’t either.
