People not familiar with her “lore” mean well but are SOOO misinformed about her personality
One of the takes I keep seeing from this situation is that the best way for the Slydells to “rebuild” would be best for Marie to go to a nursing home and Tophia into some kind of group home/assisted living facility herself. While I can see that being feasible for Marie due to her poor health and the existence of government programs for indigent elderly people, there is a snowball’s chance in hell of Tophia EVER agreeing to go to a group home, even if it were free. She would absolutely not be able to cope with the structure and rules of conduct and would be bounced from the community so quickly. And it’s sad to say but if it’s determined that Marie needs longterm care, I 100% see Tophia convincing her against it so that she doesn’t have to be alone.

Yes. The only way to fix Tophia is to involuntarily institutionalize her in a place where she can be re-parented from scratch.
The obvious problem is that such a place does not exist.
Seriously, why does Reddit seem to think people can be institutionalized just for being a moron, or having a personality disorder, or making shitty decisions? There are actual violent schizophrenics - like Papa - who can’t get a bed in one of these places. Why would anyone involuntarily commit a grown woman whose only problem is an inability to get her shit together?
-
My question to you is what does tophia or papachu need to do to qualify for assisted living?
I mean, she has been shown to not do basic things like hygiene and having a driver license.
And papachu who has been arrested 8 times for domestic violence and robbery.

For starters, they would have to live in a country that actually gives a shit.
Then someone would have to petition the district attorney for involuntary commitment. Why involuntary? Because neither of them wants help, so they have to be dragged kicking and screaming into treatment.
The DA has to receive the petition and then find time to investigate in between the actual rapists and murderers and blue meth retailers, and then they have to have a hearing to obtain a court order.
But we’re just getting started.
After the court order, THEN they have to wait for a space in a state-run psych ward. You know how many beds New Mexico has for that? 49. For the entire state. There are an estimated 56,000 people in New Mexico with severe mental illness and only 49 beds for civil inpatients.
New Mexico’s ratio of state bed count vs total population is one of the worst in the nation. (Bottom 10 easily)
The good news is that there are an additional 88 beds for forensic patients. These are the beds reserved for criminals who need a psych evaluation. These best possible outcome is for Papa to get arrested and deemed incompetent, and locked up in one of these facilities.
The most likely outcome is that he is in and out of jail for the rest of his life until some other criminal kills him.
So here’s the big question: Why can’t Tophia get help?
**Because there is nothing wrong with her.**
Okay, that’s a mild exaggeration, so here’s what I mean: Tophia does not have any medical condition that can be fixed with inpatient care. **Being a fuck-up is not a medical diagnosis.**
Tophia probably has a cluster B personality disorder and chronic PTSD, but these aren’t things that hospitals can fix. She would surely benefit from counseling and occupational therapy, but nobody is going to be treated as an inpatient for being dumb and lazy.
(I live with a person who is so disabled they literally cannot care for themselves. Tophia is not one of those people.)
If Tophia ever got admitted to a psychiatrist for evaluation, you know what they will do? They will take one look at her, write “SLS” on her paper, and show her the door. Shit Life Syndrome is basically incurable, and in terms of priorities it puts you dead last behind the patients with schizophrenia, brain damage, Down’s syndrome and so on.

Thank you for explaining that. It makes a lot of sense. So sad and confusing how the judge and court system don't see that papachu is a threat to society as a dangerous person despite him almost killing mamachu and posting inappropriate material online involving minors.
My fear is that papachu would end up like schizophrenic serial killer Richard chase (the vampire of Sacramento) who was let go from the psych ward he was in as he was deemed cured despite him being caught killing birds to drink their blood in his inpatient room and him injecting rabbit blood i to his veins.
Because of the justice systems ' failure, he killed 6 people
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Chase-
Yeah. And I highly suspect that their willingness to declare someone “cured” has a lot to do with how many new cases they have standing in line.
There very definitely ARE treatment options for Tophia. But Tophia has to recognize the problem and choose to participate (and, in all probability, pay for those services).
-
Realistically, what would treatment look like for tophia if she were to get help? Like the probability of relapse?
I'm kinda surprised the directors of the psych ward weren't sued by the victim's families for letting Richard chase out of the hospital despite knowing he was still killing animals and drinking their blood. Like how many killers does there need to be before they take Mental health seriously?
I'm really concerned that tophia might end up a spree killer like Charles Whitman as tophia's behavior has become more concerning based on her recent videos

Tophia needs intensive occupational therapy. That would focus on re-learning basic life skills and trying to help her achieve independence. But she would also need a LOT of emotional therapy (such as acceptance and commitment therapy) to deal with her trauma and her anxiety. And then they would have to help her replace her social media addiction with some other activity.

She can just be a homeless bum forever, who cares? She is actively making that choice.
-
We must exercise patience and let them learn about her on their own. She never takes too long to show who she truly is. I think the added exposure is a good thing, because the more people know about her, the bigger that bad taste she will leave in their mouths. The 16 year olds and the trolls aren’t doing anything to help though cause they attack the unsuspecting people and make them side with Tophia out of sheer spite. If they would just shut the fuck up and let them see for themselves, no research would be needed in my opinion
-
But a lot of people swear they know everything but literally just started watching her yesterday. So many wrong things on TikTok. Someone told me that we’re the reason she’s homeless because we kept calling her jobs. I said first off who is yall I’ve never done anything to her. But they clearly were assuming things she’s never had a job while she’s been online. 🤦🏾♀️
I really wish people would do research before speaking on them. There's so much misinformation about them online as is.
