When I worked in a hospital, we had a body that sat in the morgue for a MONTH unclaimed so I’m not sure about the timeline on that one

just Googled it. in New Mexico they have up to a month to claim the body before it’s cremated, but they have up to two years to claim the cremated remains

Do they still have to pay for it being cremated if they don’t end up claiming his body? I would assume so but maybe since the morgue is like “oh well no ones coming”, they’ll just hand the remains to the family member with no charge which would mean tophia just got thousands of dollars to stuff her gut vs putting it towards a nice burial/ash box thingy smh.

considering they are homeless, i would assume the state covers it. in my state they cover it no matter what. if your family member dies and you somehow don’t find out until 6 months later, the state will cover the expense because it’s technically their, the hospitals, responsibility.
