I'll be honest coming from country that had communism and I was unarmed and had family taken and hung for opposing them... I still prefer keep my 2nd amendment right. People born in USA are very privileged to not have to see your own family members killed for just opposing political view point.
Even if he said that opinion someone died while debating only. No violence just words and was killed for words. Its bad slope to go down when you speak against political party and it gets you killed. No one should have to sweat that. If anything Mental wards and asylums need return. I feel bad for the kids. A child can't opt into any of this, that's terrible for them. Genuinely, they do not deserve to lose a parent.
I do not feel bad for his wife. When you marry someone evil, when you agree to raise a family with someone evil, your beliefs are theirs and your morals are theirs. The kids lost a family. She lost a partner in malice, and I hope for her sake it teaches her to learn some of the care towards the world that neither of them have ever shown. Their entire animus was driven towards taking from other people, towards harming other people--both of them complicit--and I will show her the same respect that she and her husband showed to children shot in American schools or bombed with American munitions, two distinct avenues of ongoing human misery which they were both perfectly happy to continue supporting. Since they're so gung-ho on evangelism let me quote their own bible--"they have sown the wind, and they have reaped the whirlwind".
